Unlike many Hollywood stars, he did not use a bottom double and made use of his own derriere on screen, in the love scenes with Julianne Moore.
"I was a bit nervous," he says. "There hadn't been any working out on my butt, so it was all a question of good lighting.
"Those [scenes] were difficult in the sense that I was embarrassed. I tend to giggle a lot. I have to have humour as my antidote. It all seems so absurd when you're simulating intercourse in a room full of men with wires and microphones and they're all looking very, very serious and not looking at you at all.
"They're just very concentrated on what they're doing."
Fiennes also claims that he had to have some acting lessons of an
unexpected kind in the film. "Of course, we
don't have sex in England. I had to have special coaching."
