Hi,
I was born in 19xx ('twas a great year, as some of my friends will testify [of course, they were born in 19xx too, so they're somewhat biased!]) in Devlali, India. I grew up in Barnes High School, Devlali, where my parents were teachers. We moved to Delhi in 1965 and I went on to boarding school in Lucknow. I finished my high school from La Martiniere College, Lucknow, India and then graduated from St Stephen's College, Delhi in 1975 with an Honours degree in English Literature. India Today's survey of colleges in India, is here.
Soon after, I began working at American Express Bank in New Delhi. Two years later, in 1977, I joined Bank of America and helped set up their branch in New Delhi. It was a lot of fun and hard work. I spent ten very satisfying years with BofA ending up as a Corporate Banking Group Head in Calcutta.
In 1987 I left India and moved to Bahrain with Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait. Being involved in writing credit policy and then setting up a Corporate Bank was fun. In 1990 I joined Trans-Arabian Investment Bank (TAIB). I had the opportunity to expand on my corporate banking experience by doing international business including trade finance, syndications and a host of other business. Bahrain is a lovely country to live and work in and I had a great time there. In 1994 I moved to Kuwait, which is not a very nice place to live in (I think Snoopy would describe it in one word - "PTUI").
In 1995 I finally left the Middle East and emigrated to Canada. For a while I worked at Hummingbird Communications Ltd in Toronto. At the end of 1996 I joined Bank of America Canada and remained there until the summer of 1999. That's when the Bank went through a merger and I left.
Between 2000 and 2002 I helped a small startup technology/telecom company that delivered business solutions to medium sized corporations in Canada. I took care of the legal, finance, accounting and Business Continuity Planning areas as well as got involved with the technology side of the business.
But finally it was time to get back to banking ... so I joined the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions here in Toronto. In this role I am involved in the supervision of financial institutions ... and enjoying every minute of it!
Over the years I have had the good fortune to travel to several countries listed here! I think my most memorable experience was attending the corrida (bullfights) in Madrid.
I like tinkering on my guitar (ballads, folk songs etc.) and on my Macintosh - the finest computer ever made, certainly for home use. In fact I have several vintage Macs (some date back to 1989) which are connected to the internet. Why? Because I can!
My kids decided that they preferred Mac's so we have several of them networked at home (it takes about 10 minutes to set up a Macintosh network)!! Their PCs were abandoned. And in case you haven't figured it out as yet, I'm a single parent.
My favourite TV shows (not that I get much time to watch TV, but these are my favourites if I did have the time!)? Home Improvement, Seinfeld, Frasier and Mad About You. I like a good laugh. What won't I watch? Sci-fi and horror. Waste of time, according to me. I wish that I could play squash at least once a week; it's a great game!
The Internet is really neat. To be able to exchange messages with friends and family around the world so easily is really cool. The Net is also a great source of information. My children use it to collect all kinds of research material for their studies. The stuff that's available on the internet never fails to amaze me; here's my name, in two Japanese scripts, which was sent to me without any charge:
And here are some of my bookmarks. Using HTML is so easy that it didn't take long to get this web site up and running. If you're looking for a shortcut to search engines and to some fun sites, mosey along to my bookmarks.
I've also created a Photo Album which you can peek at. This will be updated each time I have new pix to show. Check in from time to time but remember, these are just family and personal pix.
