For over two decades, they've blazed a trail, rocking packed houses from the GTA all the way out to the Coasts and beyond. As former CityTV news anchor Mark Dailey has said: "The Meteors ... everywhere!" One of Toronto's hardest working bands, The Meteors exceptional live show embodies a unique blend of diverse styles, propelled by an intense driving energy. The Meteoric approach has been described as "lively, inspired, cheerfully aggressive, and unabashedly enjoyable." They thrive on creating a good-time atmosphere, clearly placing them on the shortlist of groups who can consistently draw a full house, a feat which continues to fuel their ongoing longevity.
Their near-magical delivery bursts forth utilizing a wide array of musical styles from fiery Rock&Roll, soulful R&B and swingin' Blues, to bouncy Top 40 Pop, Dance and Latin beats. With trumpet, four-part vocal harmonies and a powerfully tight rhythm section, The Meteors are able to offer a more interesting and textural experience, than most other bands The Meteors are well-stocked with a large repertoire of several hundred tunes to draw from, so no two shows ever feature the same selections.
The Meteors have had the success of several long-standing house gigs they've hosted around the GTA (they're currently in their 9th year of steady Saturday afternoons at Timothy's in Toronto, and their 3rd year of Sundays at Lake Affect in Port Credit).
The players are all dedicated, full-time professional veterans of the music business, having accrued extensive studio experience, as well as tenure with many other well-known acts/artists. On lead vocals and trumpet is frontman Joe Reynolds, whose charisma and flair for stage antics have made him popular with the crowds. Bassist Jay Speziale is as strong at laying down the big bottom of the band, as he is at belting-out a powerful lead vocal on a classic standard. Guitarist Tim Johns loves to strum out his slick funky rhythms, but can smoke on a hot blues-inflected solo with the best of them. Rich Roxborough brings a wealth of experience on the keyboards and a strong voice that adds to the depth of the Meteors vocal range. On drums is Jim Casson, whose unstoppable groove is perfect for keeping the crowd on the dance floor. Group chemistry has always been strong within the band and has helped make them a favourite with audiences.
Some highlight engagements the band's performed: Maple Leaf Gardens Closing Street, Molson Indy Street Party, Molson Beach Party, Molson Awards Banquet, Merisel Awards Banquet, Q107's Homegrown Contest (winning 2nd place of 750 bands entered), Labatts' Blue Tent Party, Toronto's Waterfront Festival, Niagara's Friendship Festival, Barrie's Jazz & Blues Festival, Casino Rama, Casino Windsor, Casino Niagara, Burlington Ribfest, Toronto Ribfest, Deerhurst Lodge, Reboot's national internet webcast GIGAthon and Brampton's Gage Park New Year's Eve Bash, among others. They've done television appearances on Global's PM Toronto, CityTV's TORONTO Rocks and appear in several scenes of the Y2K movie The Cornerer's (performing on two songs of the soundtrack as well).
Over the years, an impressive list of celebrities have also guested with the band, among them: recording artist Steve Winwood, guitarist Rik Emmett (formerly of Triumph), singer Bonnie Pointer (The Pointer Sisters), guitarist Hiram Bullock (Saturday Night Live and David Letterman Show), actor Gary Busey (The Buddy Holly Story, Lethal Weapon), Ed Robertson (The Barenaked Ladies), Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), harmonica master Donnie Walsh (Downchild Blues Band), former Toronto Maple Leafs' Captains Wendell Clark and Doug Gilmour, as well as hockey impresario Don Cherry (Coach's Corner-Hockey Night In Canada).
So whether they're playing your neighbourhood pub, family wedding, anniversary, birthday party/bar mitzvah, downtown nightclub, corporate function, municipal event or show concert, you can be sure The Meteors have the talent, knowledge and experience to make sure your time with them will be exciting, fun and memorable! |
